Towards a System of Data Management at a Gym

The purpose of this project was to develop a system for recording and managing data gathered from a user’s trip to the gym.
A user that attends a gym on a regular basis usually has a set regime to follow. This can be set by a personal trainer or designed by the individual. During a workout at a gym a user will encounter a variety of equipment which can be broken down in to two sections. A section is usually dedicated to cardiovascular exercise; these types of machines include treadmills and bike machines. The other section is used for resistance weight training. Again there are a variety of different weight machines that focus on different muscle groups.
Each user will sign onto each machine used by scanning a special card on the machines reader, now the user is logged in and the machine automatically records their workout. The machine will know some of the user’s details like age and weight which will be used to exactly calculate calories burned.
When the user gets home they can log onto a website and view what has been achieved at the gym that day and in the past. This allows the user to view their progress easily and quickly. This system will develop a prototype for a weights bench to demostrate its capability.
