The purpose of this project is to develop a fully functional home automation system with powerful energy analysis tools that allow the users to see their energy usage in great detail. The automation system can control different elements of the home such as lighting, heating, power outlets and the home security system. The system was designed to interact with a real physical model house that simulated a real building. The model home incorporates the use of different sensors and display components, with Arduino microcontrollers. The Arduino microcontrollers communicate with the main system to either send energy data or to receive a command to operate a certain element of the home. The energy analysis tools allow the user to review the energy use over different time periods along with calculating energy costs. The project faced a lot of different challenges ranging from user interface design, circuit design, to communication between a software application and multiple external microcontrollers
