Increasing the Sociability & Accessibility of Online Social Networking

Brian Allardice

The purpose of this project was to look at the digital divide between older adults and social networking, this paper looks at bridging this gap through touchscreen technology with the Microsoft Surface and using the Facebook API for the social networking side. This project is trying to find out if it is possible to remove the fears and bad publicity attached with these sites.
The project will be conducted in an agile methodology using sprints to release regular iterations of working software to test and then use as prototypes.
The results show that some of the fears with privacy issues can be calmed as long as the users know their information can’t be viewed by others. In relation to touch screen technology some of the users did find this approach appealing but some users still preferred the traditional mouse and keyboard.
