The education as an industry has two types of exams in practice, paper-based exams and computer-based exams. This project explores how the paper-based exams are out dated and the current problems with the educational software. The current systems seemed to be insecure in many manners: potential problems with formatting, unaddressed issues with unreadable text and in general did not address the system for the usability of the student.
To address these issues a computer-based exam was built in a manner which ensured: the user would have more control over the layout and format of the exam, the system prevented access to external software and resources whilst students sat the exam, reliability of systems were addressed as students’ progress is kept during the exam, and adding beneficial features that can be found on popular software. User evaluation showed that the system had achieved its purpose by creation of a very usable system.
