The purpose of this project was to develop a web based tool to allow research to take place in order to investigate the quality of online accessibility evaluation tools.
The purpose of the project was to create a website which would allow researchers to set-up experiments allowing them to compare the results of online accessibility evaluation tools on selected websites, with the views of end-users who may using an assistive technology device.
Researchers can select websites of the similar type, along with specific type of pages on the websites with tasks for end-users to complete before evaluating how accessible and usable they are. For example, a researcher could investigate the accessibility of two airline websites; British Airways and EasyJet. The researcher inputs the websites, specific pages (such as the ëBook a Flightí page and ëContactí page) and a specific task for each page (for example, ëFind the number for the UK call centreí). The researcher then has the ability to run automatic evaluation tools on each of the pages for each website, as well as asking different participants to complete the same tasks and give a rating of how accessible they found one page compared to another.
The system can then provide the results of the comparisons, any addition feedback from users, and the results of the automatic tools.
This will give the researcher the ability to analyse the data and differences between the evaluation given by human users and the automatic tools.
